Test For Starch

Please describe this experiment in your own words!

Equipment:

  • Starch solution
  • Two test tubes
  • Water
  • Two stoppers
  • Iodine solution

Method:

  1. Place equal volumes of starch solution in one test tube and water in another.
  2. Add about four drops of iodine solution to both test tubes.
  3. Stopper both test tubes and gently shake.

Results:

Water = No change

Starch = Changed to a blue-purple colour demonstrating that starch is present.
