Please describe this experiment in your own words!

Equipment:

  • Pat of butter
  • Brown paper
  • Water
  • Different food samples

Method:

  1. Label the brown paper with the food sample applied.
  2. Rub water on the brown paper that is labelled ‘water’.
  3. Rub pat of butter on the brown paper labellled ‘butter’.
  4. Test the remaining food samples for lipids using the same method.
  5. Allow for the paper to dry before recording the results.

Results:

Butter produces a positive result as the spot of brown paper becomes translucent and light can shine through.

Water produces a negative result as the spot of brown paper remains opaque.

Record results of other foods tested.
