Practical Notebook

Biology category

Each student must have a practical notebook, so there is a record of all the practical work that the student has carried out. The following guidelines must be noted.

  1. The first two to three pages must be left blank, to allow a table of contents at the start.
  2. The remaining pages must be numbered as the experiments are carried out and written into the book.
  3. Each experiment must have a title, date and a list of equipment used.
  4. Each experiment must have a list of instructions in the correct order in the student’s own words with a reference to safety features.
  5. Labelled diagrams must be given where possible.
  6. Results should be in a table format with the correct units.
  7. Calculations must be fully shown.
  8. Results stated must be fully shown.
  9. Comments or explanations of the results.
  10. Analysis of sources of error.
