Hardcore
- Washed, crushed, graded compacted stone.
- Firm, level base for floor.
- Min thickness 150mm.
- If more is needed, must be compacted in layers, maximum 225mm thickness for each layer.
Sand Blinding
- Provides smooth surface on top of Hardcore to protect D.P.M.
D.P.M.
- Damp Proof Membrane.
- 1,000 gauge polythene.
- Acts as Radon barrier.
- Musts cover entire floor area and must overlap with D.P.C. in walls.
Thermal Insulation
- Expanded polystyrene.
- 65mm thick.
- Must lay against the inner wall of cavity.
Concrete Slab
- Main load bearing part of floor.
- Top surface may be smoothened with a power float.
Screed
- Mixture of sand, cement and water.
- Used to give a smooth finish in the floor.
