Bringing water into and around a building, including both cold and hot water systems and central heating system.

Sources of water for domestic dwellings:

  • Well (private)
  • Mains (local authority group scheme)
  • Water storage tank (rain water)

Two types of water,
Hardwater => contains lime
Softwater=> does not contain lime

Functions of a plumbing system
Supply hot and cold water to all appliances within the building

Features

  • Must be leak proof.
  • Overflow system to prevent flooding, pipe comes out through the soffit.
  • Valves on the pipes which can isolate appliances.
  • A means to drain the entire system for repair or replacement.
  • Back-pollution to the water supply should be prevented.
