Sources of water for domestic dwellings:
- Well (private)
- Mains (local authority group scheme)
- Water storage tank (rain water)
Two types of water,
Hardwater => contains lime
Softwater=> does not contain lime
Functions of a plumbing system
Supply hot and cold water to all appliances within the building
Features
- Must be leak proof.
- Overflow system to prevent flooding, pipe comes out through the soffit.
- Valves on the pipes which can isolate appliances.
- A means to drain the entire system for repair or replacement.
- Back-pollution to the water supply should be prevented.
