Melodic features refer to the main tune of a piece.

Features include:

  • Sequence
    • a musical idea repeated at a higher or lower pitch
  • Triadic movement
    • movement built on the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes of a scale
  • Scalic movement
    • meloddy moves through notes of scale
  • Chromatic movement
    • movement by semitone
  • Pitch
    • how high or low a note is
  • Blues notes
    • notes based on the pentatonic scale in jazz
  • Range
    • from the highest note to the lowest note
  • Ornamentation
    • Trills
    • Grace notes
    • Turns
  • Melodic ostinato
    • a repeated melodic pattern
  • Tonality
    • major, minor or modal
  • Repeated Notes
  • Ascending/Descending
  • Octave leaps
