Two Types

  1. Direct
  2. Indirect

Direct Cold Water SystemdirectcoldsystemAdvantages

  • Less pipework, so cheaper.
  • Fresh water supply at each appliance.

Disadvantages

  • No reserve water supply of cold water if water is cut off.
  • Valves and taps wear out quicker because of the excessive pressure from the mains.

Indirect Cold Water System

  • All appliances except the kitchen sink are supplied by water from the tank.
  • Kitchen sink is connected to the mains.

Advantages

  • There is a reserve of cold water if mains is turned off.
  • Less pressure on taps and valves.

Disadvantages

  • Water supply to appliances except the kitchen sink may not be clean.
  • More expensive as there is more pipework.
